PARTY DOZEN EARTHLY TIMES (BILLY WOODS REWORK)

Consisting of saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and percussionist Jonathon Boulet, Party Dozen have made a name for themselves for making dark, improv-informed noise music; they continue their trend of impressive guest spots after last years 'Macca The Mutt', featuring Nick Cave, by enlisting prolific rapper billy woods for a rework of their track 'Earthly Times'. “We’d sent over the original track to billy woods to see if it sparked any ideas,” Party Dozen describe the process of working with woods. “What he sent back was incredible. The pairing of his voice to this song was just meant to be. Once we had the vocal we reworked the structure to give the track some new life, adding in strings/piano and cutting in some of the the previous unreleased takes from the original session. Big thanks to billy woods, we’re honoured to have him on the track.” Party Dozen's dark jazz inflected instrumentals provide a suitably ominous atmosphere for woods' layered lyricism, with distant squalling horns, strings and a rumbling bass groove - its a perfect collab that will leave you hankering for a whole album. -Toby Evans-Jesra
